• On Tuesday, March 3, a public hearing will be held regarding plans for the Alton Regional Multimodal Transportation Center, a high-speed rail passenger terminal expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Held in City Council Chambers at City Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m., the meeting is open to the public and people will have the opportunity to ask questions and offer input about the 8,000-square-foot project. The center will be located at the northeast corner of the former Robert P. Wadlow Municipal Golf Course at 1 Golf Road.
• On Saturday, March 7, the public is invited to an Alton Police Department Meet and Greet from 2 until 6 p.m. at Today’s Beauty Supply, 1415 Central Ave.
With refreshments included, the free event is open to the public and a chance for residents to get to know members of the department and hear more about plans and procedures for the city. There will be no official presentation.
• The historic Riverview Park renovation looks to be moving forward, with work slated to begin this spring. $550,000 in grant funds must be used for the project by September 2015, so time is of the essence. The plans are ambitious, including an overlook shelter.
