ALTON — The Alton Moose 951 is opening its doors to the public for the third annual Super Bowl party and fundraiser to benefit troops overseas.
The party begins at 3 p.m. and doors will remain open until midnight. Admission is free and includes door prizes, raffles, 50/50 and auctions for all who attend.
“Our first two years have been a big success,” Alton 951 Administrator Max Robertson said. “Through the 50/50, auctions, donations and raffles we’ve raised $5,000 the first year and $7,000 last year. We hope that we can beat that this year. The money is used to put together care packages for our troops overseas. We’ve been able to send several hundred packages over the last couple of years. They can’t be home with family and friends to enjoy the game. We have those who serve our country in our hearts and in our minds.”
Food items such as wings and sloppy joes will be provided for free. Guests can purchase peel-and-eat shrimp and beer will be available for $2.
“We hope that people who are not members will come and support the troops,” Robertson said. “This is a great opportunity for people in the community who may have questions about the Moose or what we do. We do a lot of good work out of this post and that is due to the membership we have. The Moose is a family and we would love for that family to grow.”
Anyone unable to attend but who wants to donate toward care packages can drop off donations or mail them to the Moose Lodge, 526 E. Delmar Ave., Godfrey, IL 62035. For information, call (618) 462-1644.
