ALTON — North Rodgers Avenue will be temporarily closed between Bloomer Drive and Myrle Street for a bridge replacement project.
The project involves the replacement of the existing bridge with precast concrete box culverts and related construction items. This section of road will be completely closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project. The project is federally funded (with county assistance) and administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The city anticipates the project starting on or around Feb. 15 and the project lasting 45 working days (subject to change for weather conditions).
A detour route will be set up for traffic and maintained with signage to minimize traffic disruptions. The detour will re-route traffic to College Avenue, to Illinois 3 (Homer Adams Parkway), to Bloomer Drive and back to North Rodgers Avenue (reverse for southbound traffic).
The city of Alton appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding during this project. Questions can be directed to the Alton Public Works Department at (618) 463-3530 or Sheppard, Morgan & Schwaab Inc. at (618) 462-9755.
