ALTON – How well do you know the Constitution?
Here is your chance to find out. On Wednesday, Sept. 17, the Ninian Edwards DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) members will host a gathering at Lincoln Douglas Square at 11:30 a.m.
The event is in honor of Constitution week (Sept. 17 through 23), an observance to commemorate the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, adopted by the American Congress of the Federation on Sept. 17, 1787.
So far, Alton Mayor Brant Walker and Godfrey Mayor Mike McCormick have agreed to read sections of the Constitution during the event.
“We have invited all of the mayors of the River Bend area to come and read a section,” Terri Hilgendorf said. “We are asking those of you who can find a hand bell to bring it along to ring the bells at noon. If you have period dress we encourage you to wear it. If not, come anyway.”
The George Rodgers Clark Society of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) will provide a color guard.
