EDWARDSVILLE — An investigation continues into a weekend crash that killed an Edwardsville chiropractor.
In a press release, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said Eric D. Dixon, 31, was pronounced dead at 5:04 p.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of Seminary Street at Black Creek in Alton. Dixon was the driver of a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that left the road and came to rest in the creek. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Alton Police Department Det. Emily Hejna said in an email that the police department was notified of the crash at approximately 4 p.m. Sunday. She did not know when the crash occurred but said neighbors reported hearing what they thought was a crash at about 3 a.m. Sunday.
An autopsy Tuesday indicated Dixon died as the result of blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen. Routine toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs remains pending. The death remains under investigation by the Alton Police Department.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
According to his Facebook page, Dixon was the owner of Accelerate: Health & Fitness Consulting in Edwardsville. A Jersey Community High School alumnus, Dixon graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic with a doctorate of chiropractic in August 2011.
