Chiropractor discusses health care reform
Chiropractor Dr. Frank Bemis gives a presentation on Obamacare at the Upper Alton-Godfrey Business Association meeting Tuesday.
GODFREY – Dr. Frank Bemis, a local chiropractor, and Chuck West, owner of Chuck West Agency in Alton, provided an interesting look at the subject of Obamacare at the North Alton-Godfrey Business Association meeting Tuesday.
Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Health Care Act of 2010, has people confused and agitated, the two men said.
“There is a lot of fear and just skepticism about it,” said West, an insurance agent for 51 years. “People are upset not knowing what is going on and the confusion trying to communicate with the insurance companies and Healthcare.gov. People get halfway through and it hangs up on them. It is just overall chaos.”
“Our current health care delivery system is not set up for wellness care, but acute care,” Bemis said. “There is a lot of concern about not knowing what is going to happen and what kind of insurance coverage there will be. People also worry about their responsibilities and whether or not they will be able to keep up with their own policy.”
Zeke Jabusch, president of the North Alton-Godfrey Business Association, said there was a promise to give health care to those who can’t afford it, but it has been at the expense of those who can afford it.
“In my opinion, it has not been a stimulus to business,” Jabusch said. “More importantly, it is money out of our pockets.”
