BETHALTO — The annual Bethalto Labor Day Weekend Homecoming will be Sept. 2-5 in City Park, 213 N. Prairie St.
The event is a tradition for the village, including live music, a fish fry, games, carnival rides and more. Rides are provided by Luehrs’ Ideal Rides Inc. portable family amusement park.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Prairie Street and Illinois 140 and will go north on Prairie to end at Village Hall. Anyone who wants to walk in the parade needs to show up between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m., Gary Wilson of the Bethalto Fire Department said.
“We welcome all to participate in the parade,” Wilson said. “Any law enforcement or fire departments, politicians, Boy Scouts and civic organizations are welcome.”
The fish fry will be held Friday evening through Monday. Live musical acts will perform throughout the weekend, including Borderline from 7:30 until 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Big Rain from 7:30 until 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Steve Ewing Band from 8:30 until 11:30 p.m. on Sunday and Doc Holiday from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. on Monday. The one ticket per ride special is available on Monday.
“This will be our 97th year doing this, and this will be our best year ever,” Bethalto Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Tim Brown said. “(Fire Chief) Alex (Campbell) and I were behind the scenes, and this year we are on the front lines, and I think everything has come together really well.”
Homecoming events kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Mayor Alan Winslow also proclaimed the weekend to be “Blue Ribbon Weekend” in honor of the men and women who have served on the police force. Residents are encouraged to post blue ribbons on their homes and businesses to show respect and support for law enforcement officers.
The annual homecoming is organized by the Bethalto Fire Department and the Bethalto American Legion. For more information, call (618) 377-6421 or (618) 377-3089.
