GODFREY – On Aug. 16, boots will be kicking up all over the Greater Alton area thanks to a country act that is “larger” than life and master of a “wealth” of hits.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have the great lineup we have this year, including a major act like Big & Rich,” Alton Wood River Sportsmen’s Club President Brad Beck said.
The 2014 Coors Light Music Fest opens its gates at noon, providing live music, food and more before culminating in a 90-minute set from headliners Big & Rich that evening.
Following his departure from Lonestar (the band he helped form), John Rich teamed with solo artist “Big Kenny” Alphin to pen songs for other artists and then burst onto the country scene themselves in 2003 with a unique brand of pop-tinged country as demonstrated in the debut single “Wild West Show.”
A string of hits followed, including “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy),” “Comin’ to Your City,” “8th of November,” and the number one hit “Lost in This Moment.” The act took a break for a few years in the late-2000s, and then defied an industry often short on memory and loyalty by reuniting and returning to the charts with “That’s Why I Pray” in 2012.
A new release, “Gravity,” is set to be released Sept. 23. To whet the appetite of the local crowd, Big & Rich will be previewing new material to thousands of fans during their gig at the Coors Light Music Fest next Saturday (along with plenty of old favorites).
The band is set to take the main stage at 9:30 p.m. at the Alton Wood River Sportsmen’s Club in Godfrey. For more information, visit www.coorslightmusicfest.com.
