EDWARDSVILLE — A Brighton man died in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 early Wednesday morning, according to a press release from Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn.
Nonn said Jacob L. Dey, 20, of the 1100 block of Rogers Court was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu west on I-70 in Marine Township. For reasons not clear at this time, Dey lost control of his car, went sideways in the westbound lane and struck the passenger side of a westbound tractor-trailer.
Illinois State Police are investigating the possibility of another tractor-trailer being involved in the crash. Dey was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and airbags did deploy.
Dey was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:39 a.m. Wednesday by Madison County Coroner’s Supervisory Investigator Deborah von Nida. The incident was initially reported to 911 at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.
An autopsy revealed a preliminary cause of death as blunt trauma to the head. Routine toxicological testing for the presence of alcohol or drugs as required by state law will be performed.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Targhetta and Wooldridge Funeral Home in Brighton.
