Starting in May, Madison County Transit is rolling out changes to its bus schedule to bring greater access to a variety of destinations for River Bend residents.
The changes approved for May are Phase II of a two-phase service improvement effort that began last fall. Phase I was implemented in January.
“These were informed by public comments from meetings,” MCT Director of Marketing and Planning SJ Morrison said.
MCT held six forums in January asking for the public’s input on how service could be improved and what it would like to see done differently. The MCT Board of Trustees voted Feb. 26 to approve the changes, which included adding later trips and Sunday routes.
Service on the No. 9-Washington and No. 10-State and Elm shuttles will be extended to 10:07 p.m. and 10:13 p.m., respectively. Sunday services will be added to both routes and a new Saturday service will be available in Bethalto.
“We heard from folks who told us they can’t work certain jobs or shifts because the buses stop running,” Morrison said. “These changes will increase access to jobs.”
More than 50 people attended across all six meetings. MCT took comments at the forums and by mail, email and voicemail. Of 39 comments, 27 were related to route changes.
People can find out if there’s a bus going their way by accessing Google maps and charting their path from start to destination. Clicking on the bus icon will tell them where there’s a bus stop and pick-up and drop-off times.
Passengers also can sign up for a text alert service that sends time-sensitive information to mobile devices. Phone numbers are kept private and used only to send information such as bus route changes, delays and service interruptions due to weather or special circumstances. Visit www.TextAlert.mct.org and complete the short registration form.
