Guests peruse booths during the annual Godfrey Women’s Club Carousel. The Nov. 5 event, which included a luncheon and raffle, sold items from Christmas, Home and Gardening, Stitchery and Bakery booths and benefits both the village and Lewis and Clark Community College students.
• A new village ordinance will require most business owners to register their place of business.
Originally, the plans called for all businesses (including home-based) to register and pay a $25 fee. Last month, the Village Board debated the issue, questioning certain aspects of the resolution. In the end, it was decided that if a business is already registered with the state, the $25 fee will be waived, although they do still need to register.
Businesses exempt from the ordinance will be home-based models, where business traffic would not be coming in and out of the location.
• On Nov. 5, more than 400 attendees turned out for the 2014 Godfrey Women’s Club Carousel at the Lewis and Clark Community College Commons building. The sold-out event, the club’s only fund-raiser, was an opportunity to raise money for local scholarships with Lewis and Clark Community College as well as beautification projects for the village.
Club representative Pam Whisler says while they do not have exact figures as of yet, the club is very pleased with the turnout and early numbers.
“The ladies of our community really support us and we are very grateful,” Whisler said.
