BETHALTO —1st MidAmerica Credit Union was recently recognized at the state level, by the Illinois Credit Union League, for community support and financial education.
The League awarded the credit union first place for the Desjardins Adult Financial Education Award for its 2014-2015 seminar series on financial topics and its partnerships with organizations that support adults in need of financial guidance. The seminar series included a workshop on resumé building, for which the credit union received the Louise Herring Award for putting the credit union philosophy of people helping people into action.
The credit union also received a second-place award for the Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. Over the past year, the credit union has performed budget simulations with hundreds students in local high schools. Along with the financial literacy programs, the credit union has an active youth club that encourages savings and thrift beginning at a young age.
1st MidAmerica was also awarded the Dora Maxwell award for an outstanding social responsibility project. In 2014, the credit union held its eighth annual charity golf outing and additional fundraising, benefitting the Madison County Child Advocacy Center. Overall fundraising in 2014 resulted in more than $26,000 being donated to the CAC. The award also recognized the credit union’s overall community support, including approximately $100,000 in community contributions and more than 2,100 hours of employee volunteerism in 2014.
