Owner Robert Jones cuts the ribbon on May 18 to reintroduce Edible Arrangements to the city of Edwardsville, accompanied by members of the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce, employees and other city business owners. The store, next to Market Basket, is adding froyo and smoothies to its menu.
EDWARDSVILLE — Edible Arrangements has relocated from 1001 Century Drive to 447 S. Buchanan St.
The shop welcomed new menu additions and a new Edwardsville location May 18 in a grand reopening ceremony. Attendees sampled free smoothies and chocolate-covered fruit, received exclusive coupons and spun a wheel to win prizes.
Owner Robert Jones said the primary reasons for the new location are easy visibility and customer convenience.
“It came about because I actually contacted (the building owners) a long time before, and I just came by one day and saw it for lease,” Jones said.
“It’s a much better spot for us,” he said. “We’ve got our vehicle out by the road, advertising sign, and people know we’re here.”
Edible Arrangements is known for its creative fruit arrangements, but Jones said the store wants to be more than just a special occasion, one-stop shop.
“It’s a specialty store — specialty gift store — and it’s going to be an everyday product now that we are introducing froyo and smoothies,” he said. “We’re going to be different than everyone else, and it’s going to be something for everyone, every day.”
The store is offering fruit smoothies, fruit parfaits, fruit salads and froyo. However, unlike traditional frozen yogurt, the store is offering froyo with fresh fruit mixed in, similar to a purée.
Jones said even before the grand reopening, the store has already experienced significant success and he hopes customer traffic will continue to increase.
“I want to see a lot of smiles, and a lot of word-of-mouth promotion for our products, and they speak for themselves,” he said. “I can’t say as I’ve really heard anything bad about our arrangements and our gifts, and things like that. We just have people come in all the time and just tell us that there is nothing else around like us.”
According to store manager Jamie Brewer, the smoothies, made from fresh fruit, include ingredients you can only find at Edible Arrangements establishments.
“All of the juice, we juice ourselves here,” she said. “We never use orange juice that’s bought. We also use agave as our sweetener; (it’s) very, very healthy as opposed to the sugars, as it breaks down really well in the body. It’s all natural and really low on the glycemic index.”
Despite the menu additions, Edible Arrangements is still going to shed light on its arrangements. Jones said there’s a certain joy that comes with delivering them to customers.
“We make people very happy, and it is fun when you deliver arrangements to people and the little girl or little boy comes to the door, and you can kind of joke with them and say, ‘You don’t like chocolate-covered strawberries?’ and they say they like them,” he said. “They have a lot of fun and people always love it.”
Brewer said she hopes to show future customers the store’s family-oriented focus.
“We are trying to incorporate the whole family in the store, which is great, because that’s what we are; we’re a family-based facility,” she said. “We want something that all ages can enjoy.”
Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Desiree Pennyhoff said the store has a promising future with the new additions.
“I think it’s delicious,” Pennyhoff said. “I’m really excited about the smoothies. Honestly though, we are very excited to have them here in Edwardsville. They moved across town so they’ve cut their investment here; they’re employing people, so it’s really wonderful.”
