Alton-based company BonafIDcatch was a finalist in the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Metro East Startup Challenge, a regional business plan competition.
According to its website, BonafIDcatch does DNA barcoding on seafood and certifies that retailers such as grocery stores, restaurants and seafood markets are selling authentic seafood. Certified retailers are listed on BonafIDcatch’s Location Finder and Mobile App with BonafIDcatch running promotions to increase traffic to those businesses.
The three winners of the startup challenge were Scoville & Company, inventor of an infant medicine dispenser; Slurv, a free messaging app for fantasy sports; and Stubborn German Brewing Company, a microbrewery expected to open next summer in Waterloo.
The top teams of the nine finalists presented their winning business concepts at the Leadership Council Southwestern Illinois Board of Directors meeting Friday. The Leadership Council, one of the contest’s prize sponsors, organized a group of business mentors and startup advisers to assist the 20 semi-finalists with their business plans.
