In the aftermath of the company’s bankruptcy filing, the RadioShack location in Alton is set to close at the end of the month. The store, located next to the Cookie Factory Bakery, has been one of the long-standing retail businesses in Alton Square Mall.
Among the 1,700-plus stores set to close, the Shiloh, Granite City, Glen Carbon, Springfield, Highland, East St. Louis and Collinsville locations are slated to be gone by early next month. The Jacksonville location will remain open.
RadioShack was founded in 1921. Following the Feb. 5 bankruptcy filing, nearly half of the 4,297 U.S. locations are targeted for closure by spring. Increased online purchasing is blamed for the decline in the corporation’s standing.
