ALTON — Alton Steel Inc. announced Monday it has reduced operating work schedules in response to lower market demand.
The company said the change will affect 62 employees, or approximately 25 percent of the workforce.
The reduced scheduling is a temporary measure until business conditions improve. The company says it will be able to respond quickly to any improvement in demand and will continue to assess the market daily.
“We have reviewed three factors: orders, inventory and scheduling, and ASI is confident that we will maintain the excellent on-time delivery performance that our customers expect, and anticipate minimal disruptions to our shipping schedule,” ASI President and CEO Jim Hrusovsky said.
Alton Steel Inc. offers hot-rolled round bar and round cornered squares in both carbon and alloy grades for the construction, automotive and fastener industries and equipment manufacturers.
