EAST ALTON — Summer is just around the corner. If your air conditioner isn’t working properly, have no fear — American Air Heating and Cooling is here.
Mark Shearlock and his wife, Tanya, recently opened their business to save the day. American Air Heating and Cooling is a fully insured, bonded and licensed full-service heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) contractor, providing service for all makes and models and installing new equipment.
“We also repair and install water heaters, both tank-type and tankless,” Mark Shearlock said.
Shearlock said he offers free estimates on new equipment and is offering free diagnostics on service calls. He provides discounts for senior citizens and veterans, being a veteran himself.
With more than 20 years of experience with two of the largest companies in the area, Shearlock is no stranger to the business. Shearlock said he noticed once a company got too big, details important to customers were being overlooked.
“I felt like I was being rushed to do my job correctly, and I value my customers as if they were a member of my own family,” he said. “And I wanted to be able to treat them that way until the day that I retire, and the only way I could do that assuredly was to do it on my own.”
Shearlock said the couple contemplated starting their own business a few years back, but weren’t too sure how to approach it. But the idea gained momentum when he was laid off for a few months.
“It is a common thing to be laid off for a month or two in this field,” he said.
Shearlock said he never let that get him down and used it as his plan to open his own business. Shearlock credited his mother as his influence for going into the business once he left the Army.
American Air Heating and Cooling serves the Riverbend and Granite City, Glen Carbon, Collinsville, Edwardsville, Hamel, Livingston and Staunton.
Shearlock said he is one of the first companies to implement the five-year labor warranty on all new equipment installation. He also is an Ameren Illinois Programming Ally.
In the future, Shearlock said he hopes his son Nolan will take over the business.
“I’m going to do this as best as I can for as long as I can, then one day Nolan can take over the business and provide the same quality service and care that I have done for all the years,” he said.
American Air Heating and Cooling is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and offers round-the-clock emergency service. Same-day service is available for health reasons. For information, call (618) 251-8585 or visit www.myamericanair.net.
