EDWARDSVILLE — Sivia Business and Legal Services P.C. (SBLS) announces its membership in the Million Dollar Club.
The firm and co-counsel recently settled a personal injury case against McDonald’s for $1 million. SBLS represented a woman injured at an area restaurant.
“Our client sustained injuries that significantly impacted her quality of life,” said Todd Sivia, managing partner of SBLS. “It was important to us to get our client the settlement she deserved so she could cover her medical expenses.”
Sivia said personal injury cases are likely to increase because of potential revisions to Medicaid legislation.
“Unless the provision is reversed, all personal injury settlements will first be subject to Medicaid payback — even financial damages awarded for emotional stress — beginning in October 2016,” Sivia said. “For those individuals needing these settlements for lifetime care, it is critical to get these cases settled prior to implementation of this legislation.”
Sivia says the firm successfully handles all types of personal injury cases, and all of its attorneys are licensed in Illinois and Missouri. In fact, St. Louis Small Business Monthly recently named SBLS one of the Top 20 Small Businesses in St. Louis.
The Million Dollar Advocates Forum is recognized as one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts, awards and settlements. The organization was founded in 1993 and there are about 3,000 members throughout the country. Less than 1 percent of U.S. lawyers are members. Forum membership acknowledges excellence in advocacy and provides members with a national network of experienced colleagues for professional referral and information exchange in major cases. Members must have acted as principal counsel in at least one case in which their client has received a verdict, award or settlement in the amount of $1 million or more.
