The Walmart Foundation will open the application period for its State Giving Program funding cycle on Monday, Sept. 14.
Illinois nonprofits with programs that focus on hunger relief, healthy eating, career opportunities or meeting the needs of underserved, low-income populations are encouraged to apply. The deadline to submit grant requests is Friday, Sept. 18.
Last year, the foundation’s State Giving Program awarded Illinois organizations with grants totaling $44.9 million.
2014 grant recipient Community Hope Center in Cottage Hills received a $60,000 grant from the foundation for the purchase of two delivery trucks for its food pantry program.
“One of the best things about serving at Community Hope Center is that every day we get to see how generously this community responds to the needs of others and how willing our neighbors are to lift up each other,” Community Hope Center Executive Director Paul Militzer said. “It is a huge encouragement to our volunteers to have a corporation like Walmart support our efforts. This grant helps to meet one of our most significant needs and will be a blessing to us and the people we serve for years to come.”
Launched in 2008, employee-led state advisory councils work with the foundation to help identify needs within their state, review grant requests and make funding recommendations to the foundation. Eligible applicants must have a current 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status to meet the program’s minimum funding criteria. Grant submissions are only accepted online at www.walmartfoundation.org/stategiving.
