GODFREY — Businesses who want to attract the “right” clients, rather than the high-maintenance types, are invited to attend a one-hour morning seminar at Liberty Bank in Godfrey on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Sponsored by the Southwestern Illinois chapter of nonprofit business counseling organization SCORE, the free session will offer practical, easy-to-execute strategies companies can use to attract good customers and avoid pairing with those who may cost more time and money than they’ll return in revenues or profits.
Marketing specialists Kerry Smith of Informationworks Inc. of Edwardsville and Ron O’Connor of O’Connor and Partners Inc. of Belleville, will lead the session. Startups, existing businesses and their owners, partners, and spouses are encouraged to attend.
“We’d all agree that whenever possible, we’d choose to spend our energy serving the right clients,” said Smith, an entrepreneur and former SCORE client. Developing the talent of working with the right clients, Smith added, includes nurturing the intuition to steer clear of potentially high-maintenance clients.
“Kerry and I also plan to share ‘red flags’ to watch for when deciding whether to recruit or retain clients,” O’Connor said.
He plans to share real-life experiences on the topic based on more than 30 years in marketing and public relations.
“Listening well during the initial appointment to gain relevant intel often proves essential to an ultimately productive relationship for both vendor and client,” O’Connor said.
The session will begin with registration and networking at 8 a.m. followed by a presentation at 8:30 a.m. that includes a question-and-answer session.
Liberty Bank’s Godfrey location, 3112 Godfrey Road at U.S. 67, Godfrey, is hosting the seminar.
Reservations are encouraged before Tuesday, Oct. 28, by contacting Smith at (618) 225-2253 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
