Tycon Builders is celebrating 30 years in business this year. Ninety-five percent of the company’s work is residential, mostly remodeling existing homes and primarily focusing on kitchens, baths and basements.
ALTON — Construction is all owner Paul Yost of Tycon Builders knows. He has been around construction since he was 13 and this year celebrates 30 years of owning his own business, Tycon Builders.
Tycon Builders was originally owned for 21 years by two friends, Paul Yost and Pat Trout, which is how the name Tycon Builders started — a combination of their names and the word “construction.” These two friends had silent partners, Yost’s father and uncle, who helped the young men during the beginning years. Nine years ago, Trout left the business and Paul Yost became the managing owner with father, Larry Yost, and uncle Doug Yost remaining on as silent partners.
Paul Yost and Trout both went to JB Johnson and studied building trades in 1979 and 1980. They started Tycon Builders in 1985.
“I never thought of doing anything else,” Yost said. “I have been in construction since I was 13. It is all I have ever done.”
Tycon Builders is an interior and exterior home remodeling business. Ninety-five percent of its work is residential and most of that work is remodeling existing homes, primarily focusing on kitchens, baths and basements.
Yost explains his business has evolved with the construction field.
“I am transitioning to a hands-on approach with myself as the owner coming out to homes to do the majority of bids,” he said.
Yost is a local boy, born and raised in the area. He plans to continue to run Tycon Builders for another 15 years or so.
Yost’s goal is simple: “I am trying to take care of the community by doing fair and honest work. As a result, we don’t run sales because we always offer fair and honest pricing on all our job bids.”
A locally owned and operated business, Tycon Builders serves people within a 30-mile radius of Alton. They have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and are fully licensed, insured and bonded. Tycon Builders offers interior home construction services including remodeling of kitchens, baths and basements and additions to homes. Exterior home construction services include siding, windows, doors, soffit, fascia, gutters and roofing. In the winter, they offer snow removal for Greater Alton businesses.
Yost, self-employed his entire life, says he has “established a company with a good name, a company that people can depend on and that is not changing.
“The only change moving forward that I see is that customers can expect the owner to come out and provide a bid for the job (for the majority of jobs),” Yost said. “We offer free estimates and my goal is to continue to serve the community … I want to be out in the community giving those bids.”
Tycon Builders is located at 1222 Adams Court, Alton, at the corner of Adams Court and Monument Drive, directly behind Drake Tires. They can be reached at (618) 465-7335 and their website is www.tyconbuilders.net.
