BETHALTO — From one-on-one individual care and companionship to help around the house, Morning Star Home Health Care Inc. aims to provide personalized, nonmedical care for seniors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in Madison, Jersey and St. Clair counties.
The company’s team approach to caring for clients allows flexibility when customizing care based on the client’s needs.
“It is hard to have a stranger in your home,” Morning Star owner Kathy Marmino said. “What sets us apart from other senior home care agencies is that we do not send in whatever caregiver is available for that shift. Depending on the number of hours you need, we determine what caregivers will best suit your needs and send them over for an interview. You actually get to pick which employee you would like in your home. In the end, hand-picked caregivers are devoted to your care. We check in weekly to assure that everything is going as expected. Our top priority is making sure our clients are happy.”
Marmino, who has owned and operated Morning Star for 25 years with her husband, Randy, and cousin Mary K. Fitzgerald, is proud of her staff. Most have been with her for 10 years or longer, and all have been thoroughly screened.
“Our compassionate caregivers provide a variety of senior care, including personal care, like toileting, bathing and feeding, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, laundry, pet care, transportation, grocery shopping and more,” Marmino said. “Our hours of operation are 24 hours a day seven days a week, so even if you need a caregiver in the middle of the night, we are here to and ready to take your call. Mary K. or I are always available to answer the phone, not send it over to an answering machine.”
Morning Star offers different levels of services for clients with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, diminished sight or hearing, arthritis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, heart disease and respite care. Costs are determined based on each client’s needs and assessed during a free consultation. Services are provided from just a few hours per day, a few days per week up to 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
“Many of our clients have a number of conditions which make the everyday activities of life difficult, but we’re there to help,” Marmino said. “We try to keep our rates lower than our competitors, and they are. I encourage you to do your homework. Give us a call and compare rates.”
Marmino also encourages those seeking care to make sure the provider is licensed through the Illinois Department of Public Health, like Morning Star, and that no money changes hands between caregivers and clients. She also suggests checking out the provider’s references.
“We handle all the payroll, taxes, insurance and administrative responsibilities for you,” Marmino said.
While Morning Star’s supportive services can help people remain in their homes, the company also provides personalized care in hospitals and nursing homes.
“One of the things that makes us so unique is, as a client’s needs evolve, we can be there every step of the way to meet those needs,” Marmino said. “We can help anywhere one-on-one care is needed. It doesn’t just have to be in the home.”
Morning Star is a licensed and fully insured member of the RiverBend Growth Association. Marmino has more than 27 years of senior home care experience, while Fitzgerald, Morning Star’s executive director, has a bachelor of science degree in home economics and more than 30 years of experience as a social worker.
