GLEN CARBON — Small business owner Erica Conway Harriss says she hopes to gain a Republican seat on the Madison County Board in District 26.
Harriss filed petitions Monday in the race for the seat held by current County Board member Brenda Roosevelt (D-Glen Carbon), who opted not to run again.
Harriss is a lifetime resident of the Edwardsville-Glen Carbon area and is a graduate of Edwardsville High School and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
“I was born and raised in Madison County and have a wonderful family with my husband, three children and extended family all in the area,” Harriss said. “This community is our home, where we work, and intend to stay and raise our family. I’m excited to use my business talents to serve Glen Carbon on the County Board.”
The County Board district includes parts of Meridian Road, Old Town Glen Carbon, Minor Park and Glen Crossing Road to Illinois 159.
“Glen Carbon is a community that is nationally known as a great place to raise a family,” she said. “I want to make sure Glen Carbon remains an attractive place to live, while keeping businesses prosperous and affordable for families.”
Harriss said she looks forward to taking a leadership role in the community and is committed to helping lower taxes and promote fiscal responsibility.
Madison County’s primary election is scheduled for March 15.
