ALTON ‒ A vehicle hopped a curb and crashed into Alton Memorial Hospital's Duncan Wing Tuesday morning.
Rusty Ingram, the hospital's manager of marketing and communications, said the driver of the compact vehicle apparently blacked out. The man was at the hospital for a doctor visit.
The accident happened at about 10 a.m. next to the emergency room. Hospital personnel responded first to the scene, followed by the Alton fire and police departments. The driver was treated in the hospital's emergency room.
Ingram said the building had minimal damage. Snow on the ground reduced the vehicle's impact because the tires couldn't get traction, Ingram said.
“It could have been a lot worse,” Ingram said.
