A tractor-trailer collided head-on with a car on U.S. 67 Thursday afternoon, sending the car's driver to the hospital.
According to an Illinois State Police press release, Ralph Baahlmann, 60, of Godfrey was driving a 2007 Lexus south on U.S. 67 300 feet south of Stagecoach Road in Jersey County at 1:37 p.m. when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a northbound 1996 Peterbuilt truck.
Baahlmann was not wearing a seat belt and was seriously injured, police said. He was transported by ARCH helicopter to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Police said Baahlmann was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs and authorities don't know why he crossed the centerline. An ISP reconstruction team will interview him once he recovers from his injuries, police said.
Baahlmann was cited for improper lane usage and failure to wear seat belt.
Police said there was significant damage to the driver's side of vehicle.
