Southern gospel group The Chosen Ones will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Rosewood Community Church, 50 E. Rosewood Drive in Rosewood Heights.
ROSEWOOD HEIGHTS — Rosewood Community Church Deacon Ronald Cline has followed the career path of the gospel singing group The Chosen Ones for more than a dozen years.
After becoming friends with the band, Cline arranged for the group to share its gift with the community in an annual concert that will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. In the place of concert tickets, The Chosen Ones will accept a “love offering” from anyone who wishes to donate to cover the band’s costs.
“It had to have been 12 years ago when I first heard them sing,” Cline said. “I had been involved in a gospel quartet in the early 1970s, so I’ve always loved gospel music. The Chosen Ones put on a concert at a sister church on Delmar. They are an amazing family and I’ve really enjoyed their kind of music.”
Mike and Melanie Rueter joined together with siblings and their children to form The Chosen Ones. They are the host of one of Illinois’ most popular Southern gospel concert events, the Manchester Gospel Music Festival, an annual outdoor event in August. They have also joined the Mid America Gospel Music Association performing roster. Since 2008, The Chosen Ones partnered with The Lesters of St. Louis, presenting a fan favorite, “Celebrate Christmas Family Style.”
“We are a progressive Southern gospel group,” Melanie Rueter said. “We are not bluegrass; we’re more easy listening and hymnal type of music. My husband, Mike, and I have been singing together since we were in high school together in 1974.”
The family performs more than 160 concerts a year and travels thousands of miles across the United States, sharing its unique style of progressive Southern gospel at churches, revival meetings, city homecomings and fairs. The family has been featured on Gospel Music Television and has partnered with Compassion International, an international ministry that sponsors children in Third World countries, providing food, clothing and Christian teachings.
The church will hold its regular Sunday morning service before turning the stage over to the visiting artists. Residents are welcome to hear the music of The Chosen Ones at 50 E. Rosewood Drive, off Airline Drive. Compact discs will be sold at the concert or can be purchased at www.thechosenones.org.
