It’s that time of year again — well, halfway there.
From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, Freer Auto Body will celebrate Christmas in July by inviting residents to stop by for lunch, dessert and chances to win prizes.
Margaret Freer, a sponsor for the event, said $10 raffle tickets have been sold in advance and also will be available at the event. The prizes include a week in a Florida condominium, two nights in the Ozarks, and several packages of Cardinals tickets. Freer said they have already been asking friends to sell tickets, running a request through their Facebook page for 50 people to sell 20 tickets each.
“We have wonderful friends and family that support everything we do; it enables us to help the community,” Freer said. “A lot of kids will benefit from this come Christmas morning.”
She said proceeds from the event will enable children to wake up to Christmas presents they would not normally receive.
This is the fifth year Freer Auto Body has sponsored Christmas in July, but only the second year incorporating a raffle — last year, Freer said they raised more than $17,000. Freer said they will cook 100 pounds of meat for sloppy joes, and attendees also will get chips and a cold drink. Freer said she will also be making cheesecake, which will be sold by the event’s two biggest proponents — Taylor and Lily Freer, ages 7 and 10.
“The kids really enjoy doing it — they always look forward to the event,” Freer said.
Freer said the two girls and their friends also will help wait tables.
Cash donations will be accepted during the event. For information, call Freer Auto Body at (618) 466-6151. The business is located at 4512 N. Alby St., Godfrey.
