OTTERVILLE — Otterville Baptist Church is teaming up with Churches on the Streets, a nonprofit ministry that serves the homeless population in St. Louis, to collect items to be distributed during the Christmas season.
Church members will sew and stuff 300 tote bags to be handed out Monday, Dec. 22, when Churches on the Streets hands out its weekly hot meal to the homeless population.
Items the church is collecting for the bags are as follows: gender-neutral fabric for the bags, razors, washcloths, soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, baby wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, socks, gloves, scarfs, hats, Bibles, notebooks, pens, chopstick, combs, brushes, fun-size 3 Musketeers bars and oranges. In addition, the church will also have cookie-baking day and could use donations of margarine, baking powder, salt, powdered sugar, flour and vanilla extract.
A collection bin will be placed outside of Otterville Baptist Church, 103 E. Main St., Otterville, and will be checked daily. There will also be a collection day at Sinclair’s Grocery in Jerseyville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29.
