ALTON — While going without basic necessities like food is a serious issue throughout the year, Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for low-income families, single parents, the homeless and all who are in need.
St. John Missionary Baptist Church is inviting residents to a free Christmas celebration dinner. The dinner is open to people who:
• Will be alone at Christmas;
• Are experiencing difficulties being at home following the death of a loved one;
• Want to do something different for Christmas;
• Want to share the true meaning of Christmas with others;
• Are homeless or between homes;
• Are having financial difficulties and can’t afford to prepare a Christmas dinner
Even if none of the above reasons apply, residents still are welcome to attend the dinner.
The feast includes turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread dressing (stuffing), green beans, dinner rolls, and a variety of desserts.
The dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 427 Market St., Alton. For more information, call the church at (618) 465-5954.
