ALTON — A local church wants to foster a spirit of fellowship through its annual Thanksgiving outreach dinner.
The River of Life Family Church will hold its 14th annual Thanksgiving outreach dinner from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the church, 3401 Fosterburg Road.
In a press release, organizer Marilyn Pruitt said last year the church served about 1,400 people. The dinner is free and open to the public.
“This is a great opportunity for us to show our community that we care and that they are very important,” Pruitt said.
“My husband, Fred, and I started this when 9/11 happened. There was so much fear and uncertainty in everyone’s hearts. I felt that God had given us a vision to reach out to the community and let them know that it will be OK — don’t be afraid. Our first year we served 164 guests and each year it has grown.”
Scores of volunteers prepare and serve the food and provide music and entertainment for guests.
Donations help pay for the dinner. This year’s budget is $14,000 to $16,000, and any donations go directly to the dinner, Pruitt said.
Donations can be made in the form of a check to River of Life Family Church, memo line “Thanksgiving Outreach,” River of Life Family Church, P.O. Box 1044, Alton, IL 62002. Checks also can be sent to Marilyn Pruitt, 3313 Greenwood Lane, Godfrey, IL 62035.
