EDWARDSVILLE — The Madison County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified a man killed after his vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train Sunday.
Coroner Stephen P. Nonn identified the victim as Henry D. Bloodworth, 80, of Alton. Bloodworth was pronounced dead at 10:40 a.m. Sunday, March 15, at the scene of the incident, the Washington Avenue railroad crossing north of Homer Adams Parkway in Alton. Bloodworth sustained multiple traumatic injuries. Routine toxicological testing for the presence of alcohol or drugs will be performed at a later time.
Pfc. Emily Hejna said the Alton Police Department's preliminary investigation shows Bloodworth drove a 2011 Chevy S-10 pickup through the gates at the crossing just before 9:28 a.m. Police are still investigating and do not yet know why he drove through the gates, she said.
No one else was injured in the crash.
Funeral services for Bloodworth are pending through Marks Mortuary of Wood River.
