EDWARDSVILLE — A Hamel woman died in a multi-vehicle crash on Illinois 140 Thursday, according to a press release from the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
Lori A. Vinyard, 51, of the 100 block of Allen Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, May 15, by Madison County Coroner’s Investigator Todd R. Ballard. Vinyard was driving a 2011 Ford Edge west on Illinois Route 140 when the crash occurred, pinning her vehicle underneath a milk tanker truck.
Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said the autopsy’s preliminary findings showed Vinyard died as the result of traumatic asphyxia. Routine toxicology analysis for the presence of alcohol or drugs will also be conducted. The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction unit.
