COTTAGE HILLS — Glenn Gliedt and Jeffrey Darr have been buying lottery tickets together for more than 25 years.
“Originally we were in a group with five other guys at work, but they all moved on or retired, so now it’s just the two of us,” Darr said when he and Gliedt presented their winning Lucky Day Lotto ticket at the Illinois Lottery Prize Center in Fairview Heights. The two co-workers won a $600,000 jackpot prize when their ticket matched all five numbers – 01- 02- 03-06-30 – in the Sunday, May 24, Lucky Day Lotto midday drawing.
Darr lives in Cottage Hills and Gliedt is a resident of Ballwin, Mo. They work together at Community Wholesale Tire Distributing in Hazelwood, Mo. Their winning numbers were chosen by Darr.
“I played special dates, including my wedding anniversary,” Darr said.
Darr, who is married with two children, said he plans to invest his portion of the windfall for retirement. Gliedt is married with four children and seven grandchildren. He also plans to invest.
The winning ticket was purchased by Darr at Farm Fresh, 310 W. Bethalto Blvd. in Bethalto. The retailer received a bonus of $6,000, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. In addition to the jackpot winners, more than 18,000 players won prizes ranging from $1 to $200 in this Lucky Day Lotto drawing. Lucky Day Lotto drawings are twice a day, seven days a week.
