The Meals on Wheels program is essential for homebound senior citizens. It is how they receive 33 percent of their daily nutrition and allows them to remain living in their homes. Until recently, the program has covered 22 townships throughout Madison and St. Clair counties, serving more than 450 daily meals to seniors. With state budget cuts, there have been drastic cuts for the program. In the past, homebound seniors were delivered one hot meal a day, Monday through Friday, by Meals on Wheels drivers. Currently, these individuals are receiving five frozen meals, once a week. Seniors are not only losing the quality in their food, but also the interaction they receive from Meals on Wheels staff. Because of this, the Feed the Need Concert is a necessity to assist in funding the program.
“We are very excited for this year’s show,” Senior Services Plus Executive Director Jonathan Becker said. “It is for a great cause and sure to be a fun time. Senior Services Plus appreciates the community’s support.”
