EDWARDSVILLE – The Madison County Board met on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and measures that were passed included:
- allowing the Sheriff’s Department to purchase 44 tasers, 44 taser batteries and 88 taser air cartridges. The county will spend $41,657 to buy the equipment from Taser International Inc. of Scottsdale, Ariz. The money will come from the Sheriff Capital Administrative fund.
- approving an agreement authorizing the county to pay up to 25 percent, or $133,500, for improvements to the village of East Alton’s Shamrock Ave. Work to the road includes milling and resurfacing existing payment, patching and upgrades to the sidewalk and curb ramps on Shamrock Ave. from St. Louis Avenue to 380 feet north of Olin Industrial Drive. The village of East Alton approved a $200,000 engineering agreement with Sheppard, Morgan and Schwab of Granite City in early February. Village officials said the project is slated for completion in June to August 2015.
- setting aside $500,000 in HOME funds at the request of the Madison County Housing Authority for a $14 million development project at 1701 Bryant Ave. in Edwardsville. HOME funds are used to “expand the supply of decent, safe, affordable housing, to make new construction of housing feasible and to promote the development of partnerships among local governments, private industry and nonprofits to utilize resources to provide such housing.”
