Southwestern Illinois College students studying business will have a new scholarship to apply for this 2016-17 academic year thanks to Scott Credit Union.
The Scott Credit Union Business Scholarship will be a $1,000 award each year for two years for a part- or full-time student seeking a degree in business. First preference will be given to a member of a military family or Scott Credit Union. The first scholarship will be awarded for fall 2016.
“We are very excited about offering the scholarship to an area student who wants to continue their education at Southwestern Illinois College,” SCU Chief Marketing Officer Adam Koishor said. “We have received questions over the years from our members about scholarships. Now, through a partnership with SWIC, we can offer those members the opportunity to apply for the Scott Credit Union Business Scholarship. This is another way we are giving back and supporting the communities in which we serve.”
Scott Credit Union is a nonprofit financial cooperative that offers banking services. SCU has 15 locations including several throughout SWIC’s service district — Collinsville, East and West Belleville, Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, Waterloo, Millstadt, Highland, Caseyville, Mascoutah, Scott Air Force Base and Troy.
The SWIC Foundation has more than 250 scholarships available thanks to donations from individuals, civic organizations and businesses. Annually, awards total more than $200,000.
“Each semester, we hear students’ stories and the important impact that receiving a SWIC Foundation scholarship has upon their ability to reach their academic goals,” SWIC Foundation Associate Director Rena Thoele said. “The students are so grateful for the support of the generous individuals, businesses and organizations.”
