A St. Louis man was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville student.
According to media reports, Michael Gordon is being held at the St. Louis County Jail on $1 million bond. Police say Gordon met Taylor S. Clark, 19, of St. Jacob, about a Craigslist ad Clark placed to sell his 2007 Nissan 350ZX. Authorities say Gordon met Clark in Hazelwood, shot him in the head and left his body in the 12000 block of Missouri Bottom Road before driving Clark's vehicle back to his nearby workplace.
A press release on SIUE's website states that Clark was an engineering student.
“Our hearts and minds are with Taylor Clark’s family and friends as they cope with this tragic loss,” SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe said. “At a time of the year when the new spring season brings the promise of brighter days ahead, and commencement provides unending potential for so many of our students, it is truly sad that Taylor had his bright future taken away. He will be missed by all of those who he encountered on our campus.”
Counseling services are available to students by calling (618) 650-2842 or visiting the Counseling Health Services Office in the Student Success Center lower level adjacent to the Morris University Center.
