EDWARDSVILLE — An Alton man was charged Friday in Madison County Circuit Court with felony retail theft (second subsequent offense), according to a press release from Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Schnuck’s Supermarket, 2701 Godfrey Road in Godfrey, at about 11:07 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in reference to a retail theft. Deputies were advised Eric D. M. Woodson, 50, of the first block of Woodview Court, had been observed placing a bottle of vodka in his coat and exiting the store without paying for the item. Upon arrival to the area, Woodson was located walking from the store. Woodson was found in possession of the bottle as well as other items taken from the store. The total value of the items was $9.79.
Woodson was taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Jail, where he was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The warrant and criminal information was issued by Judge Kyle Napp, who set Woodson’s bond at $15,000. Woodson qualified for the enhanced felony offense because of an August 2011 conviction for theft in Madison County.
