ALTON — Police identified a man whose body was found Tuesday morning in the basement of a vacant Alton home at 1708 Maupin Ave.
In a press release Thursday, the Alton Police Department identified the man as Larry D. Arnold, 66, of the 2200 block of Johnson Street, Alton.
An autopsy has been completed but the cause and manner of death are still pending toxicology test results and subsequent examinations, police said.
In an interview Tuesday, Police Chief Jason “Jake” Simmons said the case is being investigated as a homicide. The body had been in the basement for an extended period of time before being discovered by an asbestos mitigation crew Tuesday morning.
Anyone with information relevant to the case is asked to call the Alton Police Department Investigations Division at (618) 463-3505.
The house is condemned and slated for demolition.
