A Colorado Springs, Colo., man was charged Friday in Madison County Circuit Court with a felony charge of retail theft over $300.
The man is identified as Troy E. Linnebur, 22.
On Thursday, January 23, at about 12:32 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Walmart, 6660 Godfrey Road, in reference to a retail theft. A Walmart loss prevention officer told the responding deputy that an unidentified man pushed a shopping cart, containing about $876 in merchandise past all point of sale, without attempting to make payment.
The loss prevention officer confronted the subject in the vestibule, just before he exited the building. Upon being confronted the subject abandoned the stolen merchandise and fled on foot to a black passenger vehicle on the parking lot. He entered the vehicle and fled the area.
A deputy found the suspect's vehicle on the parking lot of Regions Bank at 821 W. Homer M. Adams Parkway, Godfrey, at about 1:43 p.m. The deputy stopped the vehicle and identified the driver, Troy E. Linnebur, as the suspect in the attempted theft.
Linnebur was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail, where he was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The warrant and criminal information was issued by Judge Neil Schroeder, who set Linnebur’s bond at $15,000.
