A Cottage Hills man was charged Thursday in Madison County Circuit Court with felony charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and unauthorized production and possession of cannabis sativa plants, according to a press release from Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
Police identified the suspect as Jerret M. Scott, 30, of the 1300 block of Seventh Street, Cottage Hills.
At 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man shooting a handgun in the direction of a neighboring home in the 1300 block of Eighth Street, Cottage Hills. Deputies met with the complainant, who reported a man in the 1300 block of Seventh Street exited his home twice and fired a handgun. The complainant advised the man fired the weapon into the ground several times earlier in the day, but that she chose not to report that incident. The complainant told the deputies the subject just exited the home again and fired multiple rounds in the direction of her property, which at the time was occupied by several children.
Deputies identified the occupant of the home as Jerret Scott, who was located by deputies walking near his home. Scott fled on foot from the deputies but was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. A search warrant was obtained for Scott’s residence. Investigators recovered the gun and located a cannabis-growing operation inside the residence. Investigators seized 12 cannabis plants, about 40 rounds of live ammunition, and an article of drug paraphernalia from the home.
Scott was taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Jail, where he was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The felony warrant and information was signed by Judge James Hackett, who set Scott’s bond at $35,000.
