EDWARDSVILLE — An East Alton man was charged Thursday in Madison County Circuit Court with six counts of child pornography, according to a press release from Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
Police identified the suspect as Steven A. Yon, 25, of the 200 block of Lakeside Avenue.
Police said sheriff’s investigators assigned to the FBI Cyber Task Force received information from the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children regarding child pornography being associated to multiple Google accounts linked to Yon.
Investigators located Yon at his home Tuesday afternoon and developed evidence linking him to the production, possession, and dissemination of child pornography. Yon was detained at the Madison County Jail pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
An analysis of electronic devices and media seized during the investigation revealed child pornography images. Additional evidence developed during the investigation and analysis of the media revealed Yon produced child pornography and was involved in the distribution of child pornography.
Investigators have identified one child involved in the production-related offenses committed by Yon. Investigators working in conjunction with social services have ensured that the child is safe. The investigation is ongoing, but there is no evidence to suggest Yon used any other local children in his efforts to produce child pornography.
The facts of the case were presented to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges for six counts of child pornography. The first count relates to the production of child pornography and the remaining five counts relate to the dissemination of child pornography. The felony warrant and information was issued by Judge Kyle Napp, who set Yon’s bond at $250,000. Yon remains in police custody.
