EAST ST. LOUIS — A Granite City man was sentenced Friday to about six years in prison for illegally selling and possessing firearms.
Donnie A. Sherrell, 22, of Granite City, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 70 months in prison and three years of supervised release on two counts of sale of a weapon to a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon.
Evidence showed that from May until August 2014, Sherrell sold four weapons to a convicted felon, including a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, a .38-caliber revolver and two rifles. Sherrell also is a convicted felon.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Reppert.
