ALTON — A city resident was charged with five felonies Tuesday for a series of shootings in Alton.
According to an Alton Police Department press release, Brandon McGee, 19, of Alton, was taken into custody by the Madison County Sherriff’s Office on Monday, Sept. 1, for felony warrants on aggravated discharge of a firearm on Aug. 11 in the 1300 block of Taylor Avenue in Alton and aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon on Aug. 12 in the 1900 block of Central Avenue in Alton. Bail was set at $100,000 on each of the warrants.
Prosecutors say McGee fired a semi-automatic handgun on Aug. 11 at an occupied vehicle. No one was injured. The next day, prosecutors say he shot Amaru S. Hamilton, 17, of Alton, in the leg. Hamilton was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.
In addition to the incidents above, police say McGee is a suspect in two other shootings in August.
Police said just before 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, in the 2400 block of Johnson Street in Alton, McGee shot Danrius E. Braxton, 19, of Alton, in the head and ankle. Braxton was treated for severe injuries at a local hospital and transported via helicopter to a St. Louis hospital.
Braxton’s condition was not available Tuesday evening.
McGee was charged Tuesday with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon for Saturday’s shooting. Bail was set at $1 million.
McGee also was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon for a shooting Friday, Aug. 22, in the 3100 block of Paul Street in Alton. Police say McGee discharged a firearm in the direction of an occupied vehicle. No one was injured.
McGee was convicted Sept. 21, 2012, of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a public park.
