WOOD RIVER — A man was charged with burglary Monday after attempting to rob the Farm Fresh store in the 500 block of South Central Avenue, police said.
In a press release, Deputy Chief Dan Bunt said police receive a 911 call from the store at 8:37 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23. An employee reported a man entered the store and asked for money from the register. After the employee refused to give him the money, the man went behind the counter. A second employee confronted the man and the suspect fled without any money when a customer arrived on the parking lot.
A description of the suspect’s vehicle and direction of travel was given to responding officers. Officer Brent Rombach found the suspect’s vehicle in the 1900 block of East Edwardsville Road. As Rombach checked the area, he located and arrested the suspect, Mark Easter, who was running west in the 1800 block of East Edwardsville Road.
The case on was presented Monday to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office and Easter was charged with burglary. Associate Judge Neil Schroeder set Easter’s bond at $80,000.
