Shawn Bequette, 23, of Madison County, pleaded guilty May 7 to Hobbs Act Robbery, U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton announced Friday.
Bequette was ordered held without bond pending a Sept. 24 sentencing hearing before U.S. District Court Chief Judge Michael J. Reagan.
An investigation revealed Bequette robbed a Pontoon Beach gas station in the early morning hours of Oct. 6, 2014. Witnesses chased Bequette after he left the gas station, subdued him and called police. The charges in this case include a maximum term of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pontoon Beach Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Shane B. Kelbley.
