A Wagoner, Okla., woman was charged Monday in Madison County Circuit Court with a felony charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), according to a press release from Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.
Police identified the suspect as Shanita M. Mckellop, 26, of the 600 block of S.W. Third Street.
On Saturday, March 29, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy stopped a car carrying McKellop as a passenger on Martin Luther King Drive near Godfrey Road, Godfrey, for a lighting violation. Police arrested the driver for driving on a suspended license. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a package of cocaine in McKellop’s purse.
McKellop was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail, where she was held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The felony warrant and information was issued by the Judge James Hackett, who set McKellop’s bond at $15,000.
