EDWARDSVILLE — A parolee has been charged with stabbing a woman in the parking lot of WellSpring Resources in Alton.
Anthony D. Davis, 36, of Alton, was charged Thursday with one count of attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony; and one count of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony. The charges state he stabbed a woman in the head and body with a knife Wednesday, Nov. 19.
According to the Illinois Department of Corrections website, Davis was paroled Sept. 12 after serving five years in prison for aggravated vehicular hijacking of a handicapped person in 2009.
The woman is recovering from her injuries, according to media reports. Police say the stabbing appears to be a random act of violence and that the suspect has a history of mental illness.
A judge set Davis’ bond at $250,000.
