EDWARDSVILLE — A 13-year-old mother and her son, allegedly abducted by the girl's stepfather, were in police custody on Saturday.
Katherine Derleth, 13, and her infant son, Christopher R. Derleth, were found in a rural mountainous area of West Virginia, Capt. T. Mike Dixon of the Madison County Sheriff's Office stated in an email. Her stepfather, Christopher M. Derleth, 39, was also in custody.
The Sheriff's Office issued a nationwide arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping against Christopher M. Derleth. Authorities say he kidnapped Katherine and her son from a state-appointed guardian’s home in rural Edwardsville during the early morning hours of Sept. 18. A court order was previously issued out of Bond County that prevented Christopher M. Derleth from having contact with Katherine, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
