ALTON — Two counterfeiting suspects were in custody Thursday afternoon after a police chase across the Clark Bridge ended in a crash in North St. Louis County.
Pfc. Emily Hejna of the Alton Police Department said the two detainees are suspects in a counterfeiting case in Alton. Alton police chased them over the Clark Bridge until the suspect’s vehicle collided with another vehicle on Lindbergh. Hejna didn’t have information on the extent of injuries to the driver in the other vehicle.
Alton officers were working with St. Louis County police on the incident. One suspect was in custody in Alton and another was in the St. Louis County jail. No one had officially been charged Thursday afternoon.
“I am proud of our officers for their quick action on this case,” Police Chief Jason “Jake” Simmons said.
Hejna said the department has ordered more counterfeiting pens to help employees detect fake bills and will soon have them available at the police department, 1700 E. Broadway.
